IBM Research Zurich seeks an intern to investigate decomposition-based approaches for Mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) and Quantum/AI Optimization.
This internship focuses on exploring decomposition strategies for MINLP problems, aligning with IBM Research’s vision for quantum-centric supercomputing. The successful candidate will demonstrate and benchmark these concepts for topology optimization under AC optimal power flow constraints for electric grids.
Responsibilities
- Investigate decomposition-based approaches that separate MINLP into discrete and continuous subproblems.
- Explore and evaluate various decomposition strategies with respect to quantum circuit characteristics.
- Demonstrate and benchmark proposed concepts for topology optimization under AC-OPF constraints.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
- Background in quantum information theory, quantum algorithms, optimization, machine learning/AI, or computational physics.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience with scientific computing and deep learning on compute clusters.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and eager to work on interdisciplinary research problems.
Nice to have
- Experience with quantum software frameworks (e.g., Qiskit).
