ETH Zurich seeks a PhD candidate to research glycoengineered peptides and nanobodies for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in radiopharmaceutical sciences.
This position focuses on enhancing the biological and pharmacological performance of therapeutic and diagnostic agents through defined N-glycosylation. The role integrates advanced glycobiology, radiopharmaceutical sciences, and translational research to develop novel imaging and treatment strategies.
Responsibilities
- Create and refine methods for labeling glycosylated peptides and nanobodies with diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides.
- Execute quality control measures and analytical characterization for new radiopharmaceutical products.
- Carry out cell-based assays to evaluate binding, uptake, and internalization processes.
- Design and analyze preclinical studies, including biodistribution, PET, and SPECT imaging in mouse models.
- Assess the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles of newly synthesized radiolabeled compounds.
- Collaborate closely with a PhD student in the Locher laboratory to design and optimize glycosylated peptide and nanobody constructs.
- Share research outcomes through presentations at international conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
- Hold a Master's degree with strong academic performance in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in radiopharmaceutical sciences, molecular imaging, protein engineering, glycobiology, or bioconjugation chemistry.
- Possess practical experience in at least one area: radiochemistry/radiopharmacy, cell biology/cell culture, protein/peptide chemistry, or preclinical in vivo research.
- Show excellent organizational abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary, international team.
- Communicate fluently in English, both written and orally.
Nice to have
- Previous experience in radiopharmaceutical research, PET/SPECT imaging, or animal studies is advantageous but not mandatory.
