Research Associate in Ophthalmology

The company seeks a Research Associate in Ophthalmology for its Basel, Switzerland site to develop human-relevant bioassays for retinal and anterior segment diseases.

This position supports the Ophthalmology Discovery Department in Basel by contributing to the creation and implementation of bioassays that accurately reflect human biology. The team maintains a strong early development program focused on both retinal and anterior segment conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, conduct, and interpret experimental work.
  • Build functional cellular models and 2D or 3D culture systems that mimic ocular diseases.
  • Modify cells using nucleic acid-based methods.
  • Use modern molecular biology methods for in vitro and ex vivo testing.
  • Create, validate, and utilize complex in vitro microphysiological systems, including spheroids, organoids, organ-on-chip platforms, and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cells.

Requirements

  • At least three years of laboratory research experience.
  • A BSc or MSc in a relevant scientific discipline, or comparable training.
  • Strong expertise in cell culture and isolating cells from tissue samples.
  • Competence with common laboratory instruments, as well as data analysis and storage software.
