Scientist, Protein Expression & Purification

Adaptyv, a fast-growing biotech company in Lausanne, seeks a Senior Scientist to lead mammalian protein expression and purification. The role focuses on optimizing yield, quality, and automation for an AI-driven lab platform.

Adaptyv is developing an automated lab platform that enables AI agents to run biological experiments. The company is pioneering agentic science, where AI designs proteins and hypotheses but relies on physical infrastructure to execute experiments. This role is foundational to the platform, ensuring high titer, consistent quality, and fast turnaround for downstream processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize mammalian protein expression (CHO/HEK, transient and stable) to improve titer, quality, and reproducibility.
• Manage end-to-end purification processes (Protein A, IEX, SEC) and ensure the quality of proteins delivered.
• Transform expression and purification into a high-throughput, automated, and reliable system with consistent turnaround.
• Collaborate with lab automation teams to integrate workflows onto automated systems and reduce manual, person-dependent tasks.
• Work with software teams to track samples and process parameters, enabling data-driven improvements in yield and quality.
• Establish quality standards and troubleshoot issues across biological systems, reagents, and process steps.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience in mammalian protein expression and purification, including CHO/HEK systems and full workflows from construct to purified, characterized protein.
• Industry experience in production or industrial settings where yield, reproducibility, and turnaround were critical at scale.
• Proven ability to make production processes reliable, including titer optimization, scale-up, and consistent quality beyond one-off experiments.
• A builder mindset focused on rapidly establishing and continuously improving production capabilities, not just following fixed protocols.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines, working effectively with automation engineers and software teams to integrate data and automation into production.

Nice to have

• Experience with scripting and data analysis to track and interpret process data is a strong advantage.
