Proton seeks a Senior Front End Engineer for its Standard Notes team to build secure, high-performance productivity tools using React and TypeScript in a hybrid work model.

This position sits within the Standard Notes team at Proton, where the primary objective is to evolve the platform into a robust, secure note-taking and productivity solution. The role involves leading technical implementation, improving developer experience, and ensuring that all features meet high standards for security and user privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain high-quality user interfaces across the product suite.
  • Convert product specifications into technical tasks and guide the team through implementation.
  • Improve the development lifecycle, tooling, and code architecture to enhance the developer experience.
  • Write clean, testable, and concise code to uphold and raise codebase standards.
  • Plan and deliver new features, technical projects, and greenfield initiatives.
  • Mentor team members to foster a culture of accountability, creativity, and continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Strong grasp of JavaScript methodologies and design patterns.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript or another typed programming language.
  • Hands-on experience with React or at least two comparable frameworks, focusing on performant and reusable components.
  • Solid knowledge of software engineering best practices, including SOLID principles, design patterns, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • A product-oriented mindset dedicated to delivering exceptional user experiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within distributed teams.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of client-side security risks, such as the OWASP Top Ten, and strategies to mitigate them.
  • Familiarity with UX design, accessibility standards, and internationalization/localization practices.
  • Experience using Grafana or similar monitoring tools.
  • Ability to translate product requirements into architectural designs and implementation plans.
  • Practical experience with NodeJS.
  • Understanding of cryptography concepts, including key exchange mechanisms and encryption types.
