This role involves joining the EU physical gas desk to collaborate with portfolio managers and traders, aiming to maximize value from Trafigura’s gas portfolio and expand its reach geographically and functionally to meet ambitious profit targets.

Responsibilities

  • Assess existing and emerging markets for Trafigura, creating effective origination strategies to uncover and seize commercial opportunities via flow generation and complex, non-standard gas deals.
  • Expand Trafigura’s footprint across Europe by establishing and maintaining strong relationships with counterparties, industry groups, transport and storage operators, and others in new regions.
  • Take full ownership of originating, negotiating, and executing complex structured gas transactions from start to finish.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with traders to enhance portfolio value, share market insights, and respond to evolving opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10+ years of experience as a Structured Gas Originator, with a solid network among utilities, upstream companies, trading houses, and large industrials, preferably including illiquid regions like Central/Eastern/South-Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Baltics, or North Africa.
  • Proven ability to structure, negotiate, and execute complex commodity deals including vanillas, spread options, gas storage, pipelines, indexed supply contracts, and financing transactions.
  • Strong team player who can lead the full deal cycle and coordinate internal stakeholders such as Credit, Finance, Contract/Legal, Middle Office, and Regulatory teams during structuring, assessment, and approval of complex transactions.
  • Demonstrated initiative and structured approach in entering and developing new markets.
  • Excellent negotiation abilities and a sharp commercial mindset.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Nice to have

  • Ability to speak additional non-Latin European languages.
  • Familiarity with master trade agreements such as EFET and ISDA, along with knowledge of financial statements, credit analysis, and risk management practices.
