Senior Market Risk Manager

Metgroup seeks a Senior Market Risk Manager in Baar, CH to shape risk policies, lead modeling, and support trading desks in the European energy sector.

This position plays a key part in the company's energy sector mission by developing and refining risk frameworks alongside executive leadership. The role focuses on guiding risk management strategies that balance risk mitigation with business growth.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with desk heads and traders to evaluate position handling and help design hedging approaches that improve the risk-to-reward balance.
• Direct risk management initiatives by building frameworks that reduce exposure while supporting expansion.
• Monitor trading operations, track positions and profit/loss, and analyze risk metrics.
• Address intricate market risk challenges by providing practical and innovative solutions.
• Guide risk modeling and analytics to refine market positioning.
• Develop and update risk policies and procedures in collaboration with senior management.
• Perform advanced risk evaluations, such as VaR back-testing, sensitivity analysis, and scenario testing.
• Oversee model validation processes and maintain regulatory compliance.
• Partner with senior leadership to inform daily choices and long-term strategic direction.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in market risk management, with a strong interest in energy markets.
• Deep understanding of European power, gas, and/or LNG markets.
• Background working at an energy trading firm, a European gas and power utility, or a commodities hedge fund.
• Proficiency in asset-backed trading, power plants, PPAs, and regasification terminals.
• Strong communication abilities to convert complex risk data into clear insights; English is required.

• Familiarity with advanced options trading is considered an advantage.
