Service Engineer - Bakery

GEA Pharma Systems AG seeks a Service Engineer to install, commission, and maintain automated bakery production lines in Switzerland, acting as the main technical contact for clients.

This position focuses on the end-to-end technical support of automated bakery manufacturing systems. The engineer ensures that production lines are correctly installed and operational, serving as the primary point of contact for customers to resolve technical challenges and optimize performance.

Responsibilities

• Install and commission automated bakery production lines.
• Integrate systems with PLCs, HMI/SCADA interfaces, sensors, and instrumentation.
• Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).
• Diagnose and resolve complex faults in electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Troubleshoot oven-specific issues such as temperature uniformity, burner performance, and airflow control.
• Analyze root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Execute structured maintenance programs for ovens and electrical panels and control systems.
• Monitor system performance trends including temperature stability and energy usage.
• Recommend predictive maintenance improvements to reduce failures.
• Provide on-site and remote support for production issues.
• Optimize process parameters such as baking profiles, heat distribution, and conveyor speeds.
• Support customers in improving product consistency and throughput.
• Generate detailed service and troubleshooting reports.
• Maintain system documentation, electrical drawings, and PLC backups.
• Record calibration and maintenance data for critical instruments.
• Train customer personnel on operation of automated lines and basic troubleshooting.
• Provide guidance on best practices for equipment usage and maintenance.
• Deliver professional and timely service support.
• Build long-term customer relationships through technical reliability.

Requirements

• Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Instrumentation / Control Engineering.
• 3–7 years experience in Automated industrial production lines, preferably food, bakery, or process industry.
• Strong troubleshooting capability in electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Ability to read Electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in production environments.
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
• High level of ownership and accountability.

• Hands-on experience with industrial ovens.
