Software Engineer II, YouTube Trust and Safety, Responsiveness

Google seeks a mid-level Software Engineer in Zürich to build ML tools for YouTube Trust and Safety, focusing on proactive threat detection and rapid response systems.

This position supports the Responsiveness initiative within YouTube’s Trust and Safety division. The primary goal is to develop machine learning capabilities and operational tools that help identify potential threats early, ensuring swift and secure resolutions for both the platform’s operations teams and its user base.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update technical documentation and educational materials in response to product changes and user feedback.
• Diagnose and resolve system or product issues by analyzing root causes and assessing their impact on service quality and infrastructure.
• Develop software code and conduct peer code reviews to uphold engineering best practices.
• Identify weaknesses in current rapid response mechanisms and implement new machine learning techniques to solve Trust and Safety challenges.
• Create infrastructure and classification systems that combine signals from multiple expert models to enhance content detection and optimize the workflow for human reviewers.

Requirements

• Hold a bachelor’s degree or possess equivalent practical work experience.
• Have at least one year of professional software development experience using languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, or JavaScript.
• Demonstrate one year of experience working with data structures and algorithms.

Nice to have

• A master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.
• One year of hands-on experience with AI systems and machine learning concepts.
• Background in building infrastructure for complex automation and human-assisted systems.
