Software Engineer - Infrastructure (GCP & Platform)

OPTIML AG seeks a Mid-level Software Engineer for Infrastructure in Zürich to manage GCP platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and backend systems in a hybrid role.

This position operates at the intersection of backend engineering and cloud infrastructure, focusing on maintaining the backbone that ensures the platform remains fast, reliable, and scalable. It is a hands-on engineering role where the incumbent will own the infrastructure direction and drive solutions to high-leverage problems.

Responsibilities

• Define infrastructure strategy by identifying key challenges, scoping projects, and leading the team to resolution.
• Develop and implement new features in Python and TypeScript that impact core infrastructure components.
• Manage and operate Google Cloud Platform resources, including Cloud Run, networking, IAM, TLS, and firewall configurations.
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and the overall developer experience.
• Streamline the end-to-end release process to improve efficiency.
• Participate in on-call rotations and manage incident response.
• Collaborate with IT and Security teams on vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and infrastructure hardening.
• Address documentation gaps and improve system observability and monitoring.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in infrastructure or platform engineering.
• Strong proficiency with a major cloud provider, preferably GCP.
• Solid experience building, optimizing, and managing containerized applications.
• High proficiency in Python.
• Experience working with databases in production environments.
• Experience scaling distributed workloads using metrics, queues, or event-driven approaches.
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Swiss or EU citizenship.

Nice to have

• Experience with compute-intensive or scientific simulation workloads.
• Interest in climate tech, sustainability, or the built environment.
