System Integration and Test Engineer

CASCINATION AG seeks a Senior System Integration and Test Engineer in Bern to lead V&V activities, enhance testing infrastructure, and ensure product quality in a regulated medical environment.

This position focuses on ensuring the reliability and performance of medical systems through rigorous verification and validation processes. The engineer will oversee testing strategies, improve hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop infrastructures, and manage documentation for annual releases while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate unit and integration tests created by developers, adding contributions where necessary, particularly for Qt logic and GUI components.
  • Perform continuous testing of the application throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Enhance and expand the hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) and software-in-the-loop (SiL) testing frameworks.
  • Assess system performance metrics such as response times, rendering speed, memory consumption, leaks, navigation precision, and long-term stability under various conditions.
  • Validate the system against real-world clinical workflows from the perspective of the end user.
  • Direct verification and validation efforts during the annual release cycle and maintain all associated documentation.
  • Analyze field complaints, support investigation efforts, and refine log files and diagnostic tools.
  • Determine the root cause of issues, distinguishing between software, electronics, mechanical, or setup problems, including network and OS troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate closely with Software, Systems, Hardware, and Quality departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Systems, Electrical, Computer, or Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in software verification and validation within regulated sectors such as medical devices, aerospace, or automotive.
  • Practical experience in testing automation and scripting, preferably using Python, along with performance and stress testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities across networks (e.g., Ethernet) and Windows operating systems, with a working knowledge of electronics and mechanics.
  • Understanding of clinical workflows and medical imaging, enabling testing from the user’s viewpoint.
  • A structured and precise work approach with a strong emphasis on documentation.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
