Harmattan Ai in Lausanne, CH, seeks a Senior Aerodynamics Methodology and Software Engineer to bridge aerospace physics and high-performance software. The role focuses on professionalizing computational workflows, managing HPC/Cloud infrastructure, and leading AI-driven design automation for UAVs.
This role connects aerospace engineering with advanced software development, aiming to professionalize internal computational tools and infrastructure. The engineer will lead the design of AI-powered workflows and automated toolchains to accelerate UAV development cycles.
Responsibilities
- Convert research scripts and specialized tools into modular, high-performance Python/C++ libraries.
- Establish and enforce unit-testing and documentation practices across the team.
- Maintain consistent code structure standards for all team members.
- Design agentic workflows and custom MCP servers to integrate LLMs with internal CFD solvers and databases.
- Document engineering expertise in SKILLS.md or CLAUDE.md files to enable AI-driven task execution.
- Create a unified design environment by building APIs and automated workflows connecting tools like OpenVSP, XFoil, and OpenFOAM.
- Manage and optimize computing infrastructure, including Linux-based HPC clusters (Slurm) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
- Develop data architecture for storing and retrieving complex aerodynamic simulation results.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or Informatics, with demonstrated experience in aerospace applications.
- Understanding of aerospace physics, data structures, and input/output processes for tools such as OpenFOAM, ANSYS, XFOIL, OpenVSP, or QProp.
- Advanced skills in Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) and preferably C++.
- Proven experience in creating tools that integrate LLMs and MCP servers to automate engineering tasks.
- Experience in maintaining AI-ready repositories with structured instruction files and developing neural surrogate models to speed up simulations.
- Familiarity with Git/GitLab (CI/CD, Runners) and Linux/Unix systems.
- Experience with Bash scripting and cloud-scale computing, particularly AWS.
Nice to have
- Practical experience with CFD or other physical simulation solvers.
- Ability to choose appropriate physics models (e.g., turbulence models), set numerical schemes, and optimize solver configurations.
- Knowledge of surrogate model development and tools used in engineering workflows.
