AFC Operations Manager (Remote - Work from Anywhere)

Xapo is hiring a remote AFC Operations Manager to lead financial crime prevention and compliance efforts across fiat and cryptocurrency operations.

This position is responsible for managing all operational aspects related to financial crime prevention, detection, and mitigation. The role ensures the organization remains compliant with applicable laws and industry standards while developing systems to identify and reduce risks linked to both traditional and digital asset transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Translate second-line policies into practical, first-line standard operating procedures and continuously enhance the financial crime risk management framework.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of financial crime specialists, overseeing recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Perform regular risk assessments to pinpoint and evaluate potential financial crime threats tied to the company's products, services, and daily operations.
  • Keep abreast of changing regulatory landscapes and new developments in financial crime, with a focus on blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors.
  • Foster and sustain productive relationships with external partners, including correspondent banks and other counterparties.
  • Direct the investigation and resolution of financial crime incidents involving both fiat currency and on-chain blockchain activities.
  • Partner with internal departments such as legal, compliance, risk, engineering, product, and operations to align efforts.
  • Deliver consistent reports, management information, and quality assurance updates to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, law, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years in financial crime risk management, including substantial experience with cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies.
  • At least two years of experience in a leadership or management role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Gibraltar and UK regulations, laws, and industry standards concerning financial crime, AML, and digital assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capacity to work autonomously, juggle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • History of successfully designing and deploying financial crime risk management initiatives.
  • Experience handling internal and external investigations, including interactions with law enforcement and regulatory bodies.
  • High ethical standards and a dedication to integrity and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with cryptocurrency exchanges, wallets, and related businesses.
  • Knowledge of blockchain technology and its impact on financial crime risk management.
  • Proficiency in software and tools commonly used for financial crime prevention.

  • Advanced degree or professional certifications in financial crime, anti-money laundering (AML), or related disciplines.
