EM and Antenna Engineer

Destinus seeks a Mid-level EM and Antenna Engineer in Zürich to design RF and mmWave systems for autonomous UAVs, focusing on simulation, integration, and performance optimization.

This position focuses on establishing the electromagnetic architecture for next-generation autonomous aerospace platforms. The engineer will develop, simulate, and refine advanced RF and millimeter-wave technologies to support the company's mission of transforming defense operations through innovative unmanned aerial vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Execute electromagnetic simulations for RF and mmWave designs using top-tier industry software.
  • Evaluate complex electromagnetic structures and provide clear technical recommendations based on simulation data.
  • Drive design improvements for RF performance through simulation-led optimization strategies.
  • Conduct Radar Cross Section analyses for internal platforms and external airborne vehicles to aid in threat assessment and signature reduction.
  • Develop radome designs that balance electromagnetic efficiency with structural integrity and environmental resilience.
  • Oversee the integration of antenna systems across UAV platforms to ensure reliable navigation, communication, and radar functionality.
  • Assess antenna placement, coupling, and electromagnetic interactions to optimize the coexistence of multiple systems.
  • Design and refine antenna elements and arrays specifically for aerospace use cases.
  • Validate antenna performance through laboratory, field, and anechoic chamber testing, including radiation patterns and reflection coefficients.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in RF, avionics, systems engineering, mechanical design, and flight testing to deliver integrated solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromagnetics, Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven expertise in electromagnetic simulation using Ansys HFSS.
  • Programming skills in Python or MATLAB for automation, simulation, and data analysis.
  • Experience conducting Radar Cross Section simulations for airborne vehicles and complex subsystems.
  • Solid understanding of radome design principles and electromagnetic materials.
  • Background in designing and simulating complex multiport electromagnetic structures.
  • Experience with antenna element and array design.
  • Strong knowledge of antenna selection, placement, and performance optimization for UAV applications.
  • Ability to integrate multiple antenna systems while minimizing electromagnetic interference and maximizing subsystem coexistence.
  • Familiarity with antenna measurement techniques in field and anechoic chamber environments.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with HFSS 3D Layout, PyAEDT, or Microwave Office AWR is considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge of frequency selective surfaces and metamaterials is a plus.
  • Knowledge of conformal antenna design is an advantage.
