Field Service Engineer - Automation

Bühlergroup seeks a Mid-level Field Service Engineer in Riyadh to provide technical support, commissioning, and maintenance for industrial automation systems.

This position delivers both remote and on-site assistance to clients, focusing on the troubleshooting, commissioning, and optimization of Bühler machinery and associated automation infrastructure. The engineer identifies opportunities for system upgrades and modernization while ensuring operational continuity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver remote and on-site diagnostics for PLCs, process control units, motor starters, industrial networks, and electrical control setups.
• Analyze PLC code, alarm histories, system logs, electrical signals, and process parameters to pinpoint automation failures.
• Commission, service, modify, and enhance Bühler equipment and automation networks.
• Execute software updates, backups, component swaps, and system restorations.
• Assist with automation retrofits, migrations, preventive maintenance tasks, and root-cause investigations.
• Coach customer operators and maintenance staff during troubleshooting and system recovery phases.
• Collaborate with sales personnel to perform site audits, evaluate system health, and spot upgrade or modernization needs.
• Generate service reports and keep technical documentation and software backups current.
• Liaise with clients, service crews, engineering groups, and product experts.
• Participate in on-call rotations and travel to client locations as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• At least five years of experience in industrial automation, technical support, commissioning, or field service.
• Extensive hands-on expertise with Siemens SIMATIC S7-300, S7-400, and S7-1500 PLCs.
• Proficiency in Siemens STEP 7 and TIA Portal for programming, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and software changes.
• Practical experience with Siemens PCS 7 is mandatory.
• Solid programming skills in STL, SCL, and FBD languages.
• Understanding of OPC communication, system integration, and related troubleshooting.
• Deep knowledge of industrial control systems and automation principles.
• Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics and control drawings.
• Strong familiarity with industrial communication protocols, especially PROFIBUS and PROFINET.
• Knowledge of industrial instrumentation, including parameterization, configuration, setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
• Practical experience with motor starters, including Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and soft starters.
• Good written and spoken English proficiency.
