Roche seeks an intern in Basel to analyze digital health data within its Pharma R&D team, focusing on obesity and physical activity monitoring through longitudinal statistical methods.

This internship is situated within the Computational Biology and Medicine department of Roche’s Pharma Research and Early Development organization. The position focuses on evaluating clinical-digital mappings and performing longitudinal analyses to better understand disease progression and patient populations using extensive pharmaceutical research and development datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Assess how internal signal processing parameters correlate with clinical indicators such as weight, BMI, and quality of life.
  • Perform longitudinal studies to identify digital features that serve as sensitive markers for clinical improvement or decline over time.
  • Investigate whether specific parameter configurations are more effective for particular patient subgroups to support personalized monitoring strategies.
  • Interpret statistical results to determine if changes in digital metrics reflect genuine functional improvements in a patient's daily routine.
  • Explore potential overlaps between metabolic and respiratory movement signatures for cross-indication applications, subject to project timelines.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a Master’s program in Biomedical Engineering, Health Data Science, Movement Science, Biostatistics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proficient Python programming skills for managing and analyzing time-series data.
  • Strong background in statistical methods, particularly longitudinal modeling and sensitivity analysis.
  • Professional-level fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience working with time-series datasets.
  • Familiarity with obesity, cardiovascular, or metabolic diseases.
