Roche seeks an intern in Basel to create 4D visualizations of retinal dynamics using Home OCT data, supporting the Ophthalmology pipeline through advanced imaging insights.
This internship sits within the Imaging Data Insights pRED group at Roche’s Computational Sciences Center of Excellence. The position aims to deepen the understanding of retinal diseases and their treatment responses, directly supporting the company’s Ophthalmology strategy and pipeline development.
Responsibilities
- Create and analyze 4D (3D plus time) visualizations to uncover short-term retinal pathology changes using daily Home OCT data and segmentations.
- Develop strong expertise in medical imaging processing and analysis techniques.
- Convert complex, high-dimensional datasets into clear visual narratives that explain drug impacts to clinicians and non-technical audiences.
- Partner with clinical teams and stakeholders to design and assess analysis methods and applications.
- Draft scientific presentations and reports to disseminate project findings to a broader audience.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
- Understanding of computer graphics concepts such as volume rendering and isosurfaces, alongside image processing skills like registration.
- High proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with 3D visualization libraries (e.g., VTK, PyVista, VisPy, or Blender scripting) and tools (e.g., Paraview, Slicer, Meshlab, IMARIS).
- Capability to handle volumetric data and perform voxel processing.
- Fluent command of English for both written and spoken communication.
Nice to have
- Background in GPU computing using CUDA or OpenCL.
- Experience with programmatic video generation or animation tools like ffmpeg, imageio, or matplotlib.animation for time-course visualizations.
- Prior exposure to Ophthalmology or general medical imaging in academic or industrial settings.
