Lead Mechanical Engineer (100%)

Climeworks seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead global mechanical design and execution for DAC plants, including cold-weather sites like Alberta, Canada. The role requires integration with multiple engineering disciplines and experience in industrial plant projects.

This role leads mechanical design and execution for direct air capture plants worldwide, with a focus on cold-weather environments. It involves coordinating with process, civil, electrical, and operations teams to ensure integrated, optimized, and safe designs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of mechanical specifications, design philosophies, and design bases for global project execution.
• Integrate cold-weather conditions, such as those in Alberta, Canada, into mechanical design and planning.
• Review and approve contractor deliverables, enforce owner requirements, and ensure compliance with schedule, quality, safety, and operational needs.
• Develop innovative engineering approaches to identify cost savings without compromising safety or quality.
• Manage interfaces with process, civil, electrical, and O&M teams to ensure seamless and optimized designs.
• Support alignment of mechanical scope with local permitting and application requirements for energy and industrial facilities.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of technical decisions, design bases, vendor data, and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in process plants, preferably in cold-weather climates, as a mechanical static equipment engineer.
• Proven, hands-on experience in cold-weather industrial plant design and execution, including winterization, freeze protection, and constructability planning.
• Direct involvement in at least one full-cycle project in chemical, petrochemical, or renewables sectors, covering FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
• Fluent in English.

• Experience in cold-weather or remote/seasonally constrained execution environments.
