Robotics Test Engineer

ANYbotics · Zürich

ANYbotics seeks a Robotics Test Engineer in Zürich to define operational limits and ensure reliability of its locomotion systems through advanced testing and automation.

This position belongs to the Motion Intelligence team, where the primary focus is on testing, verifying, and establishing the operational boundaries of the robot's locomotion capabilities. The role bridges systems engineering, test automation, and practical robotics, covering the entire lifecycle from initial limit definition to final production deployment in industrial settings.

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and upkeep system-level and integration tests for the Motion Intelligence software stack.
  • Produce clean, maintainable test code, mainly using Python, and enhance the underlying system-test infrastructure.
  • Establish and manage the Operational Design Domain for locomotion by converting real-world conditions into repeatable test scenarios.
  • Manage the feedback loop between field data, laboratory tests, and simulations by analyzing locomotion failures and converting them into regression tests.
  • Expand test coverage for both software and mechatronic components, including drive behaviors and middleware interfaces.
  • Utilize simulation and hardware-in-the-loop techniques to boost coverage and accelerate development cycles.
  • Collaborate with software, controls, hardware, systems, and field engineering groups to enhance overall robot reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in robotics, mechatronics, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least three years of practical experience working with robotic or complex mechatronic systems.
  • Solid software engineering foundations with strong proficiency in Python for test automation purposes.
  • Functional knowledge of C++.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems and ROS or ROS2 frameworks.
  • Proven track record in designing, automating, or maintaining system-level, integration, or hardware-software tests.
  • Experience utilizing robotic simulation platforms such as Gazebo or Isaac Sim.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in writing and speech.

Nice to have

  • Experience deploying or operating robotic systems in non-laboratory, real-world environments.
  • Background working in industrial, energy, process, or other safety-critical sectors.
  • Prior work defining operational design domains, system limits, requirements, or safety cases.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration pipelines, hardware-in-the-loop testing, test automation frameworks, or test-management tools like Testmo.
  • Knowledge of motors, drives, actuators, EtherCAT, embedded firmware, motion control, or mechatronic verification.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform field failures into reproducible laboratory tests or simulation scenarios.

What the company offers

  • A dynamic and engaging work environment.
  • The chance to join a rapidly expanding company and contribute to an ambitious team.
  • Opportunity to apply existing expertise and introduce new ideas.
  • Competitive salary aligned with market standards.
  • An attractive employee stock ownership plan.
  • Employment based in the city of Zurich.
