Software Development Engineer, RecsAI - Personalization

Amazon Switzerland seeks a Senior Software Development Engineer for its RecsAI team to build personalized recommendation systems using generative AI and high-performance web technologies.

This position focuses on the intersection of personalization and generative AI, delivering high-performance web and mobile experiences at Amazon scale. The role involves designing and operating features for a next-generation recommendation system powered by a specialized large language model, with engineers taking real ownership of their contributions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain features for a personalized recommendation system that serves multiple internal teams at a massive scale.
• Provide complete end-to-end solutions that prioritize maintainability, scalability, performance, and system reliability.
• Partner with Product and Science teams to define user experiences, conduct experiments, and refine features based on data insights.
• Establish and execute measurement strategies, including analytics events and experiment configurations, to monitor user engagement and retention.
• Make informed technical decisions in ambiguous environments where standard patterns may not apply.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.
• At least five years of professional software development experience, excluding internships.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C#, with a strong grasp of object-oriented design principles.
• Hands-on experience across the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Proven ability to contribute to the architecture and design of new and existing systems, focusing on design patterns, reliability, and scaling.

Nice to have

• Master's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Background in building server-side rendered (SSR) web experiences and performance-oriented UI rendering patterns.
• Experience with experimentation frameworks, A/B testing, analytics instrumentation, and metrics-driven iteration.
• Familiarity with AI/ML integration and generative AI applications.
• End-to-end SDLC ownership, including operations, on-call duties, monitoring, metrics, and incident response/RCA.
