The engineer will design and scale backend infrastructure that combines an orchestration engine with AI capabilities, operating with significant autonomy and direct accountability to deliver meaningful product impact.
Responsibilities
- Design and refine backend services using C#, .NET Core, and Python.
- Develop and maintain REST and MCP APIs to connect the orchestration engine, AI features, and user interfaces.
- Implement granular identity and access management for human operators, AI agents, and internal service communications.
- Structure data storage and processing flows using Azure SQL and CosmosDB to support both deterministic logic and AI operations.
- Architect systems where automated agents, human reviewers, and deterministic processes collaborate through event-driven patterns and durable execution.
- Manage service deployment on Azure compute resources, prioritizing reliability, scalability, and security.
- Collaborate on building internal administrative tools using Retool.
- Address frontend issues and enhancements within the Angular application when necessary.
- Lead initiatives from initial scoping through delivery, working independently or in pairs.
- Navigate uncertain requirements, make informed trade-offs, and produce functional prototypes when needed.
- Partner with product managers and stakeholders to address customer security needs through technical solutions.
- Maintain high code quality and production readiness while moving quickly.
- Utilize AI coding assistants like Copilot and Claude Code to improve development velocity.
- Deliver functional code early in the engagement and progressively tackle more complex problems.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of experience developing and maintaining production software.
- Advanced skills in C# and .NET Core.
- Proven experience building large-scale Python applications.
- Background in designing and running services on Azure or equivalent cloud environments.
- Knowledge of event-driven designs and messaging systems such as Azure ServiceBus or RabbitMQ, preferably with MassTransit.
- Strong grasp of relational and non-relational databases, including practical use of Entity Framework.
- Experience deploying containerized applications across Kubernetes, Functions, and Container Apps.
- Solid software engineering principles emphasizing testability, maintainability, and production readiness.
- Ability to solve problems independently and work effectively with partial information.
- Active use of AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code in daily tasks.
- Clear communication style that prioritizes simplicity and direct feedback.
- Willingness to work on-site in Zurich or Bern for hybrid arrangements.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
- German language skills are advantageous.

- Familiarity with hybrid patterns that blend event-driven choreography with orchestrated execution for long-running workflows.
- Hands-on experience with graph databases or multi-model systems like CosmosDB using document and Gremlin APIs.
- Understanding of production LLM integration, agentic frameworks, or prompt engineering.
- Knowledge of real-time communication protocols including SignalR, SSE, or WebSockets.
- Deep familiarity with Azure services beyond compute and data, such as Key Vault, Blob Storage, or Application Insights.
- Experience with durable execution frameworks like Durable Functions, Prefect, or Temporal.
- Proficiency in modern observability techniques including structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
- Frontend development skills with Angular and TypeScript.
- Background in creating low-code administrative interfaces using Retool or similar platforms.
- Prior work in cybersecurity, security testing, or products for technical audiences.
- Experience thriving in fast-paced startup environments with high ambiguity.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code using Bicep or Terraform, and general DevOps practices.
