Staff DevOps Engineer (f/m/d)

Hexagon Robotics seeks a Staff DevOps Engineer in Zürich to lead platform observability, CI/CD resilience, and engineering effectiveness for its robotics stack.

This position focuses on evolving the infrastructure that supports the company’s robotics platform, spanning from local development environments to production systems. The engineer will ensure the platform is reliable and visible, while strengthening CI/CD pipelines and promoting high standards of engineering practice across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full observability stack, including Grafana and Prometheus, to ensure comprehensive system visibility.
  • Create dashboards and define alerting strategies, along with establishing SLO and SLI frameworks for engineering teams.
  • Improve CI/CD reliability by enforcing test pyramids, optimizing artifact reuse, and ensuring resilience against external provider failures.
  • Enhance Nix-based build systems by improving cache topology, build reproducibility, and evaluation speed.
  • Boost engineering effectiveness by tracking DORA and SPACE metrics, monitoring flaky tests, and analyzing failure causes.
  • Build and maintain a robust CI cluster on AKS with dedicated node pools, isolation, and optimized I/O performance.
  • Champion clean software engineering practices, including code reviews, merge request standards, testing, and technical documentation.
  • Mentor DevOps engineers and squad champions to raise the overall level of DevOps expertise within the teams.

Requirements

  • Experience with Nix or NixOS in production build environments, including binary caches and development shells.
  • Knowledge of modern observability tools such as Loki, Tempo, Mimir, InfluxDB, OpenTelemetry, Pyroscope, or eBPF.
  • Familiarity with GitOps platforms like ArgoCD or Flux.
  • Background in ROS 2, C++, CMake, or robotics-specific build systems.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and fleet management for edge devices.
  • Exposure to engineering effectiveness programs using DORA or SPACE metrics.
