ETH Zurich seeks a mid-level Systems Engineer to design and operate scalable AI inference services within a multi-tenant HPC environment in Lugano, Switzerland. The role involves building production-grade platforms for AI workloads with a focus on reliability and efficiency.
This position focuses on developing and maintaining inference services that support AI-driven research within a high-performance computing environment. The systems engineer will contribute to the architecture and operation of scalable, multi-tenant platforms, directly enhancing CSCS’s AI and HPC capabilities for researchers and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage inference services that scale within a multi-tenant high-performance computing environment
- Contribute to the architecture, deployment, ongoing operation, and documentation of production-ready platforms for AI workloads
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Strong Linux administration skills
- Experience deploying services using Kubernetes
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or openTofu
- Knowledge of automation tools and CI/CD ecosystems, including Gitlab CI and HashiCorp Vault
Nice to have
- Experience with versioning systems and CI/CD tools like ArgoCD
- Familiarity with automated server provisioning tools such as MAAS or Foreman
- Background in creating Ansible-based configurations
- Prior work developing services on Kubernetes
- Experience applying test-driven development practices
