The Blockchain Climate Institute seeks unpaid volunteer Technology Officers (Data Scientists, DevOps, Full Stack) to support climate-focused tech initiatives remotely on a part-time basis.

The Blockchain Climate Institute (BCI) operates as an international, volunteer-driven think tank dedicated to promoting blockchain and data technologies for climate action. Technology Officers will be assigned to specialized technical positions or general roles tailored to individual career goals, with seniority levels available for experienced volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Offer technical assistance to working groups focused on areas like renewable energy, carbon trading, forest monitoring, and AI.
  • Identify and create opportunities for strategic partnerships.
  • Represent the BCI at conferences and events, sharing research insights through presentations and engaging with key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate strong oral communication abilities to build effective relationships and interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
  • Show excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Possess robust technical expertise in mathematics and coding, with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Deliver clear and persuasive presentations of ideas.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of mission and eagerness to learn about technology and climate action strategies.
  • Be proficient in at least one programming language such as Python, Java/C#, JavaScript, R, Scala, or Go.
  • Have a strong knowledge or interest in climate change, climate finance, blockchain, or AI.
  • Hold a relevant degree or training in a related field.
  • Demonstrate experience in software development or technical aspects of data-driven systems.
  • Show proven ability in computing or math-related tasks within Agile technology projects.
  • Build constructive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to drive projects forward with initiative.
  • Design, plan, and facilitate independent research while meeting tight deadlines.

Nice to have

  • Aptitude in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish.
  • A portfolio of supported Open Source GitHub projects.
