The Environmental Lab Manager leads the Physico-chemical, Biodegradation and Environmental Fate Laboratory at Givaudan in Vernier, ensuring regulatory compliance, scientific innovation, and team performance within a GLP-accredited structure.

Reporting directly to the Director of Env. & Analytical Labs, this senior position sits within the Product Safety Science Labs CoE. The manager oversees daily operations, strategic planning, and team leadership for the Vernier laboratory, ensuring all studies meet global safety and regulatory standards while driving methodological innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Environmental Testing Laboratory and its personnel to conduct high-quality internal studies on fragrance raw materials, ensuring alignment with global regulatory compliance and new product development goals.
  • Design and implement advanced testing methodologies to address current and future regulatory requirements in environmental sciences, fostering scientific innovation.
  • Maintain the facility as a best-in-class testing environment and a recognized Reference Center for Biodegradation Testing by improving methods, equipment, and automation while upholding robust SOPs.
  • Oversee testing operations, resource management, and strategic goal achievement, acting as Deputy Test Facility Manager to ensure GLP compliance, study approval integrity, and progress in digitalization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Safety Sciences, Registration, and Science & Technology teams to align laboratory activities with broader company strategies and contribute to cross-functional projects advancing Environmental Product Stewardship.

Requirements

  • PhD or Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Fate, Biodegradation, Physico-chemical Testing, or Analytical Chemistry, complemented by over a decade of relevant experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience working in an Environmental Testing Laboratory or a similar scientific setting within industry or a CRO.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Biodegradation Testing and experience conducting physico-chemical studies focused on environmental endpoints.
  • Proven track record in laboratory operations leadership, people management, and method development.
  • Experience operating within a GLP-accredited regulated laboratory structure, including prior roles as Study Director or Test Facility Manager for physico-chemical and environmental studies.
  • Working knowledge of computerized system validation, data integrity, and laboratory digitalization processes.
  • Practical experience in sample preparation, testing, and data management for biodegradation and physico-chemical studies.
  • Proficiency with analytical instrumentation and methods such as GC-FID/MS and LC-MS.
  • Strong ability to interpret scientific data, prepare technical reports, and present findings effectively.
  • Familiarity with fragrance raw materials and polymers.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to work autonomously and with rigor.
  • Commitment to maintaining excellence in GLP processes from raw data generation to final report.
  • Fluent in English and very good spoken and written French.
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and proactive mindset.

Nice to have

  • Experience in physico-chemical studies focusing on environmental endpoints.
  • Previous experience as Study Director or Test Facility Manager for physico-chemical and environmental studies under GLP.
  • Working knowledge of computerized system validation, data integrity, and laboratory digitalization processes.
  • Experience collaborating with scientific expert groups and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of method validation principles.
  • Familiarity with fragrance raw materials and polymers.
  • Very good spoken and written French.
