Expert Control-Oriented Modelling (m/f/d)

WinGD seeks a Senior Expert in Control-Oriented Modelling in Winterthur to develop virtual twins for 2-stroke engines, supporting control development and sustainability in shipping.

This position focuses on building control-oriented models for 2-stroke combustion engines and their components to support Software-in-the-Loop, Model-in-the-Loop, and Hardware-in-the-Loop applications. The role enables rapid and precise control and diagnostic development, as well as pre-calibration of controllers through virtual twins, while contributing to the environmental sustainability of the shipping sector.

Responsibilities

  • Develop control-oriented models for 2-stroke combustion engines and their components for SiL, MiL, and HiL applications.
  • Establish model calibration processes by developing engine data pre-processing and tuning scripts.
  • Maintain the architecture of Engine/Subsystems Models to ensure consistent integration with the real-time environment of HiL rigs.
  • Develop and maintain a simulation/testing environment that can support software development from initial concept to certification.
  • Work together with project teams preparing datasets for virtual twins or utilizing them for developments.
  • Communicate at a detailed technical level and present overall results to management levels.

Requirements

  • MSc in Mechanical, Automation Engineering (or equivalent), with focus on engine controls.
  • Proven knowledge on reciprocating internal combustion engines, thermodynamics, and basic fluids-dynamics.
  • Proven knowledge in control-oriented modelling, automation, Linear Control Theory, System Identification and Optimization.
  • Strong ability to handle/interpret data based on the underlying physical processes.
  • Experienced in Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow and its real time toolboxes.
  • Good knowledge on state-of-the-art Model Based Development methodologies.
  • Familiar with the Verification & Validation process.
  • Very fluent in English.

  • Knowledge of using neural networks for modelling purposes.
  • German language skills.
