R&D Intern – Bioprinting Systems & Acoustic Manipulation

The University of Bern seeks an R&D Intern to support the development of DLP-based bioprinting and acoustic manipulation systems through mechanical design, 3D printing, and experimental validation.

This internship supports the lab’s effort to build a digital light processing bioprinting system integrated with acoustic manipulation. The position is designed for a motivated and creative individual who can collaborate effectively and bring a strong experimental background to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manufacture mechanical parts for experimental setups using CAD software
  • Build, tune, and run 3D printing technologies such as DLP, SLA, and FDM
  • Put together and test mechatronic and mechanical assemblies for bioprinting platforms
  • Assist with prototyping, integrating systems, and validating experiments
  • Record and organize design details, procedures, and experimental outcomes

Requirements

  • Degree or study background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline
  • Proficiency with CAD programs like SolidWorks or Fusion 360
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively

Nice to have

  • Direct experience operating 3D printers
  • Practical know-how in prototyping and handling laboratory equipment
