Work Selection is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for a 12-month onsite role at Roche Diagnostics in Rotkreuz. The position focuses on developing a C++ system daemon and plugins for a custom Linux distribution used in medical devices.

This temporary assignment, with a high likelihood of extension, supports Roche Diagnostics by enhancing their proprietary Linux environment for medical instrumentation. The engineer will primarily build and maintain the next-generation OS abstraction layer, ensuring robust system performance and integration capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and sustain the custom OS abstraction layer, with a strong emphasis on the C++ backend and the upcoming system daemon.
  • Create a suite of plugins that expose operating system functions via an RPC API.
  • Provide technical support for medical instrument software projects and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the in-house Linux distribution.
  • Maintain code quality and system stability by performing unit and integration testing, refactoring older code, and handling Debian packaging and configuration management.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of practical experience with modern C++ programming.
  • Proficiency in using Linux as a primary development environment.
  • A Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong collaborative skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to solve problems independently.
  • Advanced English communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with virtualization, container technologies, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Background in embedded software, hardware drivers, ARM platforms, or hardware-software integration.
  • Proficiency in the German language.
